WHAT'S ON OFFER AT PRESCHOOL

Picture14_edited.jpg

Sutton on the Forest Preschool is for children aged from 2 years to school age.

We operate a staff to child ratio of at least 1:4 for children aged 2 to 3 and 1:8 for children over 3.

We run a morning session every weekday morning in term time, from 8.30am to 11.45am.

Every morning session is followed by Lunch Club from 11.45 pm to 12.45pm, where children are supervised eating a packed lunch brought in from home.

We offer afternoon sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12.45pm to 4pm.

We have a Monday afternoon Transition Group for those starting school the following September which starts at Preschool at 12:45pm and finishes at 4.00pm.

On Friday mornings, we run a Baby and Toddler Group alongside the normal Preschool session from 9.30am until 11am.

A Typical Day At Sutton Preschool

Terms coincide with the local school (Sutton on the Forest Primary School). Term dates are posted on our website and on the notice board located outside the village hall doors. Other useful information regarding events and committee meetings is also posted in both these places and on our Facebook page.

Preschool follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, aiming for a degree of routine and structure to the sessions whilst utilising a variety of activities designed to encourage each child to achieve their full potential.

Every day there are opportunities for imaginative play, arts and crafts, table games and much more! There are stories and songs during Mat Time, but most learning is through play, with free-flow between our indoor and outdoor areas. Details of our routines, how we plan sessions, meet individuals needs and examples of play activities can be found in the ‘Long Term Plans’ folder at Preschool.

We try to use the outside play area as much as possible, whatever the weather, so ask that children are provided with appropriate clothing for the time of year (particularly coats and wellies in winter and hats and sun cream in summer).
Also, when dressing your child in the morning, remember they may be involved in messy activities throughout the day!

Your child will be allocated a named peg by the entrance door. Please hang their outdoor coat and a change of clothes in a bag on their peg, just in case! If your child is using nappies please provide them together with wipes, as staff will change nappies and help with toilet training as required. If your child has a special toy or comfort blanket please bring it along and let staff know.

Snack time is set up for the children
during the morning and afternoon session offering a range of healthy snacks and a drink of milk or water. We have a water station for your child to access during the rest of the session.

When picking up your child, please ring the bell and wait outside until the supervisor opens the door. Pick up at the end of the day is usually 4pm, although let staff know if you need this to be any earlier to enable collection of older children from different schools.

Please ensure you collect your child on time or contact Preschool on the landline (01347 811741) if an emergency delays you. We have a procedure to be followed in the event of a parent failing to collect their child which includes contacting yourself or someone you have approved to collect your child. Late collection of your child will incur a fee of £10.00 per half hour. Reasonable other expenses will also be charged if applicable.

Settling in Period

We find that frequent brief visits before your child’s starting date will reassure them and usually provide a positive start. Your child’s first session is free, and experience has shown that leaving your child soon after arriving allows them to settle quickly and get to know the lovely members of staff. Staff are always aware when there is a new starter and are conscious of giving new children extra support and distractions whenever needed.

Attending our Baby and Toddler Group, which is held alongside the normal Preschool session on Friday mornings is also a good introduction for yourself and your child to the Preschool setting and staff.
